Nemo, Coraline and Gramophone have been chosen for the LEGO Ideas Review

It's the start of the week and we can reintroduce you to new designs that have impressed LEGO Ideas. This time, Nemo, Coraline and a gramophone managed to collect the necessary 10,000 votes on the LEGO Ideas platform. The three designs reached 28th-30th place in the last week of March 4 to March 10, 2024. To qualify candidates for the first phase of judging in 2024. While the fan designers now have to wait for the reviews from the LEGO Ideas Designer Team, we the designs in advance.

Finding Nemo

Facts about the design

  • Title: Finding Nemo – First Day of School
  • Fan Designer: Dani_Fus
  • Days: 61
  • Minifigures: 0
  • Number of parts: approx. 500

It's the first day of school for Nemo and his new friends. Together with their teacher, they are ready to explore the wonders of the ocean and the coral reef. The set contains a colorful diorama of the barrier reef with different types of corals. In between is the dentist's diving mask, which appears later in the film and leads to Marlin and Dory saving Nemo. The characters themselves are constructed figures: Nemo himself, with his orange body, white stripes and small fin; Sheldon the seahorse, Tad the butterfly fish, Pearl the octopus and the teacher Mr. Ray an energetic ray.

Even though it surprises me a bit, this Nemo design is the first one ever included in the review on LEGO Ideas. However, it is not completely unfounded, because in the LEGO range we actually find a model 43226 Disney Duos, in which Nemo and Rascal can be built. A small clownfish set 30025 was released in 2011 through LEGO Creator. But I'm sure we'll get another Nemo set at some point. Many Disney films keep getting new models. I think the odds aren't bad for Nemo's first day of school.

Coraline

Facts about the design

  • Title: Coraline – The Pink Palace
  • Fan Designer: Danielbradleyy
  • Days: 65
  • Minifigures: 5 + 1 cat
  • Number of parts: 1,707

The design is a replica of the Pink Palace from the film 'Coraline'. The house can be played on from the back. One has access to the detailed interior with all the iconic moments from the film. The Other Mother is in the kitchen to greet Coraline with a cake, and the Other Wybie is at the door to play with Coraline. In the living room is the entrance to Coraline's normal world, as well as the cockroach cabinets and spider webs.

On the next floor is Coraline's other bedroom, decorated with details such as her doll, her shelf of toys and the photo of her friends back home. The hallway shows the captured children's souls and their other father's study with his magical piano. In the roof there are some references to Miss Forcible and Miss Spink and Mr. Bobinsky's Big Circus processes.

Coraline has already appeared in the Ideas Review a few times. Two of the company's models are currently awaiting review. If one of the other designs is implemented, it will of course be cancelled. The home was rejected once in 2018. But interest in the Community of Ideas seems to be very high now. I'm curious if we can expect a Coraline Pink Palace.

gramophone / record player

Facts about the design

  • Title: Vintage record player
  • Fan Designer: AmbassadorDexterousPsyclone100
  • Days: 71
  • Minifigures: 1
  • Number of parts: approx. 1,000

These old record players are also called gramophones. Emil Berliner invented the first gramophone and the first working plate in 1887. Back then, a plate was still made of zinc or copper; Vinyl records have only been made since 1948. The LEGO record player is a replica of any vintage gramophone. The model features three interchangeable records, a rotating needle, a removable lid, a removable horn and a rotating handle that rotates the record at the top.

I think the idea of the gramophone is pretty cool, but I doubt it will have a chance. Almost all Vintage - Retro - Antique models were rejected on Ideas, except for the 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 . But I think of the Antique Cash Register, the Classic Telephone or the Vintage Radio. The designs are all very similar and certainly nice to look at, but they were still rejected. Therefore, the chances for the gramophone are very small.
