In the last week from April 1 to 7, 2024, only the LEGO reptile model managed to get the necessary 10,00 fan votes on LEGO-Ideas to be eligible for a possible release of the set.
The reptiles will enter the first phase of assessment in 2024 as the 39th design. While fan designer Legotruman can now still hope that his design will be realized as a model, let's take a closer look at the reptiles!

Reptiles are becoming more and more popular pets every year as more and more people discover how beautiful and friendly they can be. Included in this project are three models that showcase the unique colors, textures and patterns of these animals as realistic 1:1 scale LEGO creations.
The Yemeni chameleon, also known as Chamaeleo calyptratus, is native to the Arabian Peninsula. This chameleon can be recognized by its beautiful color scheme and the iconic cap that sticks out of its head. Contrary to popular belief, the chameleon does not change color to camouflage itself, but rather to show its emotions, stress levels and social status. The LEGO Chameleon rests on a branch; the skin texture and beautiful colors are recreated with LEGO studs and small tiles.
The cute leopard gecko or Pakistani fat-tailed gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a lizard that lives in the desert. It has become one of the most popular pet reptiles in the world. They have a dark spotting pattern on yellow-orange skin that is reminiscent of leopards. The leopard geckos are known for their big eyes, cute smiles and iconic plump tail. Adult females can grow up to 8 inches (20 cm) in length, while males can grow up to 10 inches (28 cm) in length. Their life expectancy is a maximum of 15 years. The LEGO Gecko also sits on a plant base.
The pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) is a very popular choice for house turtles, characterized by its domed shells. Some have a unique ray pattern on their carapace with distinctive yellow and orange colors. Although they look like turtles, they are actually pond turtles, which belong to the same group as other aquatic turtles, such as: B. the red-eared slider. Pond turtles can live 40-50 years. For the LEGO model, black and orange Lego elements were used to build the beautiful tank; quarter tiles to create the paw scale pattern and gold ring elements to form the eyes.
I think the choice of reptiles and the execution are very successful. I'm not a big fan of the animals, but I do enjoy looking at them as a LEGO set. Quite similar sets have already been released or are planned via LEGO Ideas, such as the 21342 Insects or the still excellent LEO Cat set. Interest seems to have been piqued not only from the Ideas Community, but also from the LEGO design team.
However, it must also be said that some animal models, such as the many turtle models, have already been rejected. A chameleon model is also currently under review. Still, I think the LEGO reptiles have a chance to appear on our shelves as LEGO sets soon.
