LEGO 92176 Launch Tower

Each rocket has a launch pad. The mighty Saturn V rocket was assembled on the Mobile Launch Platform (MLP), a two-story structure that supported both the rocket and the 380 ft Launch Umbilical Tower (LUT). After the rocket was assembled, the entire platform was slowly rolled out to the launch site so that final preparations could be made. Nine service arms provided access to every critical component of the rocket, acting as fuel ports and providing electrical power to critical systems. When everything was ready, the crew boarded the ship that would take them to the moon. The service arms swung away from the rocket, the tail service pylons at the base of the rocket swung back behind heat-resistant shields, and the rocket flew skyward.

This model was developed especially for the LEGO 92176 & 21309 Apollo Rocket . It is a model of the Apollo 11 Launch Umbilical Tower and Mobile Launch Platform (MLP). The model is a faithful 1:110 scale replica of the entire launch tower. Over the past twelve months many engineering drawings and photographs have been consulted in an attempt to make the model as accurate as possible, although a few details (such as the placement of the fuel lines and environmental ducts) are not readily available and require some educated guesses.

• The model has several features:
• Once the rollout is complete, raise the damper arm!
• Turn the tap away from the rocket (tap does not work)
• Retract the crew access arm once the astronauts are on board!
• Once the countdown reaches zero, withdraw the eight service arms!
• Rotate the service arms with three tails!
